Bee populations have been declining for many years, and we need to save them before it’s too late. No matter what you have to say about sugary cereal (yum or poison), at least Cheerios is trying to help bring back the bees.
First they removed Buzz the bee from their cereal boxes in aims of spreading the word. And now they are offering 500 FREE wildflower seeds to anyone that lives in the US, Canada or the UK. All you have to do is fill out a sample form and send it in. You can expect to receive your pack of seeds within 4 to 6 weeks.
Cheerios doesn't plan to stop there. They’ve also pledged to transform 3,300 acres of their oat farms into wildflower fields by the year 2020.
The cereal company's call to action couldn’t come at a better time. Bees are in really big trouble. Increased use of pesticides, widespread parasites and urbanization are threatening bees all around the world. We need bees to pollinate plants, otherwise our food production is destined to see devastating results. To put this into perspective, 1 out of every 3 bites of food you eat is made possible by bees and other pollinators.
No time to waste, it’s time to get busy saving the bees!
