Istanbul, Turkey, has experienced heavy snowfall over the last few days that’s caused temperatures to plunge. Stories of kindness are emerging from all over the city about people going above and beyond to help stray animals stay safe and cozy during the snowstorm.
Ali Çelik was on his way to work when he saw a group of stray dogs that had sought refuge in front of a mall. They weren’t alone—some compassionate strangers were there laying out cardboard boxes for them to sleep on and covering them with warm blankets. The kind strangers had also brought food for the dogs.
According to Çelik, the people didn’t want to give their names. They had come to help the animals, not to get recognition for their act of kindness.
This isn’t an isolated incident. Elsewhere in the city, department stores like this Penti boutique have even invited strays inside to escape the freezing cold.
You can just tell that the homeless pups appreciate these simple gestures of kindness.
“Don’t forget that only true love warms up,” wrote Arzu Inan, the manager of the Penti store, on Facebook. Perhaps his kindness will inspire others to show some compassion to animals in need during the extreme winter weather.
