In 2015, Priscilla Morse saw a heartbreaking photo on Facebook of a little boy in an orphanage in Bulgaria. The child was starved and malnourished.
The Tennessee mom found out about Ryan from Reece’s Rainbow, a grant foundation that helps to fund the adoption of kids with Down syndrome and other special needs from overseas orphanages.
With the support of her husband David, Priscilla wanted to do everything she could to save baby Ryan. The fact that Ryan was a child with special needs didn’t bother the couple. They had already adopted McKenzie, who has a congenital heart defect and Down syndrome, from Russia with help from Reece’s Rainbow.
After seeing Ryan’s shocking pictures, they decided to adopt him too and give him the life he deserved. Ryan moved from Bulgaria to Tennessee last year, and just wait until you see how different he looks today.
Ryan has been diagnosed with several health issues, including dwarfism, microcephaly, clubbed feet, cerebral palsy, and re-feeding syndrome. The road to recovery has been long and painful, but he’s made amazing progress in just one year.
Just a year ago, Ryan was severely emaciated. He was going to die if Priscilla hadn’t seen his picture on Facebook. Today, he’s smiling and laughing like a happy little boy should.
“I am thankful to God for restoring this child,” Priscilla said on Facebook.
