Marina Piro has always had the wanderlust bug and one of her biggest goals was to travel around the world with her dog, Odie. That dream finally became a reality thanks to “Pam,” her refurbished and super cozy travel van.

After a lot of research, Marina began her DIY restoration project by buying a 2001 Renault Kangoo. She gutted the interior and installed a new floor, some lights, a kitchenette and a bed. With a few final touches—curtains, beddings, cooking utensils, a few houseplants—her van went from a rusty old can to a cozy mobile home.

Traveling by plane or train and staying in hotels and AirBnBs may seem like a more convenient way to see the world than driving around and sleeping in a van. But Marina decided to ditch the conventional modes of travel because she wanted to bring her beloved rescue labradoodle along for the trip.

“The main reason why I chose to be traveling by van was that I wanted to have Odie with me . . . too many bus, train, plane companies do not accept dogs, not to mention the difficulties you might have to find a suitable accommodation,” Marina explains on her website.

She admits that there are some difficulties—her movement is restricted and she can’t leave Odie alone in the van—but she also loves having Odie for cuddles and company as she travels, and she wouldn’t change that for the world.

This is Pam the Van.
